[Empathieas] Message Box
Now it seems strange
How we used to wait for letters to arrive
But what's stranger still
Is how something so small can keep you alive
Message Box for Roxas
If you need to get a hold of him.

Message Box for Roxas

[Because he'll take the breakfast regardless.]
Nothing in the house is broken, is it?
1/2
No, nothing in the house is broken, Roxas.
2/?? actually
Probably owed this ever since Christmas, honestly.
3/?
Wait, no. He has to think about that longer. He was in bodily recovery for maybe a month, just how long HAS it been? ]
4/??

Guess that proves you didn't need them after all, huh?
But, I guess it's also good that you got them back...but how? If you want to talk about it.
no subject
I don't know about not needing them... I had this weird period after a few weeks when I thought I could handle it, but then the last few weeks have just been terrible. As for how I got it back...
[ He pulls a few whisps of Darkness out of thin air, just to prove he can, then lets them dissipate again. ]
I don't think this is the only thing that did it, but the last thing that happened was I... kind of absorbed some creatures that hang around Vanitas. [ He feels like he can safely assume that Roxas at least knows of Vanitas. ] Because he picked another fight with Naminé - when all she wanted to do was give him a late Christmas present.
no subject
[It's out of his mouth before he can really stop himself. More because he has perceived Vanitas to be a jerk and Vanitas has done nothing to change that opinion.]
But are you sure that's a good idea?
1/2
[ He relaxes his shoulders backwards, taking a deep breath. ]
I trust her. I trust Sora. I trust that...
[ He purses his lips a little, shaking his head. ]
2/2
[ He balls his fists and one of them he takes to his chest. ]
Give me a chance. Roxas, I- I- tried to kill Sora, and Riku, and I did kill Zexion. I can't... can't imagine a life without you all anymore. For at least a little while longer... I have to trust that they might be able to reach him.
no subject
...I don't know if he even wants that. But then, I don't have a lot of experience with him, and don't really want any.
But if you want to try, I'm not going to stop you. But just, be careful around him.
no subject
Instead, he starts with a nod and tries to occupy his hands with a bit more breakfast prep. ]
I know I didn't want it at first either. I guess we'll see. I found out some ways that his Darkness is different from mine during that fight. It might help me figure out how we're similar too, aside from the similar outfit.
It's one of the ways I'm trying to... pay everyone back, I guess. By taking on stuff like that. You know, Knight of Perseverance when I actually remember that's what I should be doing.
no subject
Perseverance is one thing, yeah. But you shouldn't have to feel like you owe me or anything like that.
no subject
You and Sora both, really. For helping me through those first few months. It was only the three of us for so long that I guess I just...
[ He rubs the back of his head in a familiar - adopted - gesture. ]
Felt like he might listen to me more than anyone else. There's got to be some reason we wear that same kind of outfit when we're at our most powerful, don't you think?
no subject
[One that Roxas will probably have to mull over at some point. Maybe.
For now he'll just shrug, and smile slightly. He's not used to being thanked like that.]
...has he listened to you?
no subject
I wouldn't say listened to me, but... stopped attacking long enough to hold a conversation? It's a start, at least.
[ Maybe this is a good opportunity then... ]
You don't... have any experience with this sort of thing, then? I wasn't sure if I could ask for advice or not. We haven't talked about what happened with you back before Verens lately. For me, some days the old wounds are fresher than others.
no subject
[Roxas has to think. He mostly tries to ignore the holes in his memory at that time, even though he's slowly working his way to that with Xion being here.]
Not really. I don't think anything from my Organization days would really help in this situation. I didn't really know a lot about what was going on, mostly just doing my job.
no subject
[ He tilts his head, eyebrows raised in a kind of concern that that's where Roxas's mind went. ]
Riku? Sora? You're on the other side of the issue there, aren't you?
[ The side Vanitas is on. With someone pursuing him who wanted to talk more than vice-versa. ]
I don't know why I'm exempt. Whatever I did differently - [ Than Sora and Riku ] maybe I should try it again with him.
no subject
[He's a tad confused.]
What did you think you did?
no subject
[ He puts both hands on the countertop, clearly stopping his meal prep work. ]
I'm really grateful to call you a friend, just to say that. I have... [ He actually counts - Sora, Roxas, Riku, Snow White, Usagi, Zenyatta ] Five other people I've called a friend. That's it.
On the other hand, I remember - since I got here - that you've never once called Sora or Riku your friend. And we both know Sora's tried. [ He's trying not to insult Roxas, just state some facts. ] Something I did was different though. And all this time - almost three years - you've had Sora offering.
That's how it is with Vanitas. Here he's got Naminé and Sora and I all offering to at least... try and be his friend, or at least not his enemy, and he just doesn't want it.
[ He gestures to Roxas with one hand. ]
So now the best I can come up with is... I've got to figure out how I got on your good side when even Sora can't, and maybe that would work with Vanitas.
no subject
Sora's my friend.
[It seems kind of pathetic to say, laid out like that. And maybe Roxas has been a little hard on Sora (which is probably an understatement in some capacity).]
I mean...he kind of drives me crazy sometimes and I still don't know how I feel about our connection and everything, but he's still my friend.
I guess I'm just....not good at saying it. I'm, not like Sora that way.
[He shrugs.]
Riku...he's a bit of a different story.
no subject
[ Arden is genuinely shocked. He legitimately had not seen any difference in the way he saw Roxas and Sora interact around the house since the day he'd arrived, which included things like Roxas going off to hide in his room when Sora invited people over, or leaving the house entirely for awhile. They had the barbecues in the yard and Friday Night Fights, but all the same... he never saw all of the things that Sora asked of Arden reflected in the way he treated Roxas. That, more than being within earshot of Roxas saying 'friend' in reference to Sora, was why he gawked rather noticeably at Roxas's insistence. Sora and Arden had hashed out so much at Selenium the other night and a lot of it revolved around the enforced distance between them, which would now go away since they'd talked things out.
He wondered if maybe... was it exactly what Roxas was saying? That he thought of Sora as a friend, but maybe it wasn't... as obvious to anyone else. Perhaps even Sora.
As a result, there's a VERY long pause after Arden's surprised response before he asks again. ]
Well... maybe Riku's the better comparison after all.
[ After a moment, he adds quickly. ]
... And I didn't mean that I expected you to act like Sora, by the way. Apparently I'm still terrible at reading people, is all.
no subject
I mean...He's kind of an idiot sometimes. Most of the time. But I wouldn't worry about him if I didn't think he was a friend.
[He yells because he cares.]
I guess I don't show it the best.
no subject
I mean... You're right about that much.
[ And he rolls his head forward a bit, his shoulders hunching as he tries to regain some composure. He wasn't TRYING to break the heavy mood, it just happened, with Roxas using those exact words. If anything, it was why he got obsessed with the completely ridiculous attitude Riku had gotten stuck in, by comparison with how "Got Himself Together" Sora seemed like as someone who could talk him out of his own poor moods. ]
I don't say this often, but I'm glad I was wrong, Roxas.
