[Roxas is sitting at a restaurant patio in Violet City, enjoying some of his hard-earned wages. He's been working at the poke-mart since yesterday. If you are in the area and want to bug him go ahead.]

Does anyone know anything about the Sprout Tower? I've walked past it a few times but it's hard to tell what it is.

No, my Pokegear has been broken since yesterday, see?

[Ash strolls up on the other side of the patio fence, from the street, where he is holding a very obviously destroyed Pokegear. Ash displays it a little, showing where the screen is cracked in three, displaying only Roxas' contact info, nothing more. Several buttons are missing, and there are scratches and cracks all over the casing. IT wasn't in this condition when Ash and Roxas fought the Beedrill, though.]

How are you, though, Roxas? And your Pichu?

[Roxas's eyes widen at the damage]

Oh wow, what happened?

Uh, I'm pretty good, and Pichu's good to. How are you, Ash?

Doing well without a Pokegear at least. You didn't see him the other day, but I have a Magikarp, and he evolved suddenly while Lara was recording him. He turned into a massive sea monster, and in the confusion, Lara dropped the Pokegear and it was knocked about 20 yards away by him.

Magikarp can do that? I thought they were just floppy fish.

I thought the same until it happened...

[Ash looks over to Roxas' table]

Oh! Am I interrupting?

Not really. Rattata was just playing with my pokegear.

Haha, Rattata is a pretty strong little guy. You think he may evolve?

I was surprised to. People seem to think that they're weak.

[Roxas pauses to check the pokedex]

Not yet. I caught him at a low level, but if I keep training him, I think it'll be pretty soon. How are your pokemon doing?

Doing fine, we're training for the Gym battle now that Magikarp has evolved. I'm going to try and win some money put into the Ranch.

I heard that the gym battle was really tough. At least, that's what the guy there told me.

Ranch?

Yeah, I was on my way back to the ranch when I ran into you fighting the Beedrill. I'm a Pokemon breeder, and I do my work on the Ranch there.

I think I saw your announcement about that. What does a breeder do?

Well... We help Pokemon make eggs. Like breeding dogs together for a perfect breed?

[Roxas raises an eyebrow]

Pokemon lay eggs? They're weirder than I thought.

Yeah, they all do. Bugs, fish, animals, even the rock-ones do.

I guess you've seen baby pokemon then.

Oh yeah! I've hatched one of the Hoppip eggs already. They are the same size as full grown ones, actually.

So not that different from older pokemon. It must depend on levels.

Something about Pokemon ties them all together. They all evolve, and they all eat berries, so I wonder if there's something to learn from that...

[Ash isn't yet aware there are Legendary or non-evolving Pokemon, but you can see where he got the conclusion.]

Yeah. They're a special sort of animal, that's for sure.

I'm not entirely sure if they are animals at all, though, Roxas...

[Roxas thinks for a moment]

They look like animals, but aren't. Weird.

Hmm...

Oh, Roxas? What time is it? I don't have a watch on me.
