Day 21 - video/action [Forward dated to the 25th]

[Given that Roxas has never actually experienced Christmas, he's not as excited as your average boy might be on the big morning. Still, he's kind of amazed by the amount of gifts that he has received from people. He hadn't really been expecting that. He also wonders where the strange egg came from,

. So many pokemon eggs. He stares at the pile, wondering where to start, since you opened the presents, right?

Tug, tug. Roxas turns his attention to Sparky, who is looking up at him, paws behind his back. Once he knows he has Roxas's attention, Sparky starts to talk. For pokemon watching at home, it's pretty much a speech about how he's been with Roxas since the beginning, and how much he's appreciated Roxas as his trainer, and that he's glad to be Roxas's pokemon. Whether or not Roxas understands is really not the point, since he's listening intently with an unreadable expression on his face. Then Sparky takes out his present, which is a small, blue stone, similar to the one that Roxas got from the Struggle Trophy back in Twilight Town. The Pikachu wants it to be a symbol of their friendship.

Rather unexpectedly, Sparky is swept up into a hug. It's still hard to read Roxas's expression, but still, it's a lot of emotion being displayed by a boy who isn't supposed to have any]

Uh..thanks, Everyone. ~~I didn't think that..~~. Really. Uh, Terra, Lea, Hope, and anyone else, I owe you something.

[Roxas gets up and has to wade through the wrapping paper that's starting to cover the floor. Axel and Sparky like playing with it. Opening the door now..]

[There is an unwrapped Thunderstone in his hands. What, no one told him he had to wrap them.]

Oh..uh...thank you. Um, I have something for you as well.

[By his bag, the wrapping isn't very good]

You're welcome. I hope it will be useful to you.

Thank you. [He cautiously enters the room.] Is your team doing well?

I'm sure it will.

Yeah, they're doing well. We'll probably go to the festival later.

[He's got the gift now, and is holding out the present]

Are you participating in any particular activity, or will you simply be looking around?

[He takes it carefully.] Thank you very much. May I unwrap it now?

[quietly] If you want to.

I might be going myself, if my Pokémon stop trying to launch themselves at plants.

Thank you. [He unwraps it carefully. When he sees the TM, his face breaks into a wide smile.] A TM? It's wonderful! Thank you very much! Ice Beam? That's perfect, none of my Pokémon are Ice-types and I'd been hoping to compensate for that.

Right, the mistletoe.

It is? That's good. I wasn't really what one you needed...

You have excellent taste in TMs. From what I can tell, Ice-types are not exactly common, not counting those Snovers.

I just sort of guessed. But yeah, they aren't.

Have you caught any? They were talking about decorating them, but I did not quite understand what they meant.

Not any ice types. They don't seem to be in the area much.

I don't get it either. I'm going to check it out when I go to the festival.

I suppose they could all be hiding further north, but you would think that a blizzard would attract more than living trees.

It must be some sort of local tradition. I can only hope it doesn't hurt them.

I wonder how far north. Maybe there's another region up there.

They didn't seem to mind.

I've not yet found a map that goes beyond Johto, strangely. For all we know there could be a thousand regions up north, but no one talks about them.

There is that, at least. Then again, they could all be too busy trying to reach the mistletoe to notice.

The other pokemon have to come from somewhere, right?

Maybe. But that might make them hard to decorate.

The question is, is there a way for us to reach that somewhere?

Decorating a moving tree sounds complicated in itself. I wonder if anyone tried to decorate the Sudowoodo?

I hope so. I'd like to see it.

Probably not. It's a long way out, and it's been really cold.

We'll have to inquire about their tourism industry, then.

I suppose the risk of being attacked would also be a deterrant.

Yeah. Although, I'll have to finish exploring this region first.

Maybe.

Once you reach Ecruteak, you'll have seen half of it. It will be over sooner than you think.

Even if there's still a whole other half?

Seeing the rest of Johto should only take a few months unless you take your time. Your Pokémon have already reached a high level, so you shouldn't have to spend weeks training them before a Gym battle. Soon, you'll have defeated all eight.

I'll probably need to be stronger though. I haven't been training that much lately.

And I want to see all of Johto.

Were you working instead?

That's a good goal to have. Is there a place in particular you're looking forward to?

From Ecruteak, you can go east or west. Do you know which direction you'll take first?

They've put me on the fifth floor. We've had so many clients yesterday, I was certain the floor would collapse.

You know, I don't think many people have earned the badges beyond Ecruteak. How are we supposed to know which one comes first?

I guess it gets busy this time of year. [He'll probably come visit you when He's on break one day]

I suppose we could ask someone. Although I don't think the badges come in a specific order. You can get any of them as long as you beat the gym leader.

I suppose this 'Christmas' holiday must be popular in many worlds. [...He'll probably be in Azalea by then. ;_;]

That's true. But Falkner's team has lower levels than Bugsy's, which has lower levels than Whitney's, so there must be an official order of sorts.

So we'd just have to find out who's stronger than the gym leader in Ecruteak, and follow the pattern.

Is there a way to know a Gym leader's team levels without knowing someone who fought them? I've never seen the locals or Nurse Joy share that sort of information.

Maybe if we talked to the gym leader directly.

But that would mean reaching their city in the first place. By that point, you'd just challenge them, even if there was a weaker one in another city.

I meant, asking the Gym leaders if they know about the other levels.

Oh! You're right, they should know each other's levels. But would they be willing to share the information? That might count as an unfair advantage.

Levels are only part of the battle though. There's also type advantage, and strategy.

And of course, none of those help if your Pokémon does not listen, or if it collapses from exaustion because you did not let it rest.

There's a lot to consider, in a battle. It's harder than it looks.

It's like fighting in a group. 'Who should be healed first?' 'Should we all attack the same monster?' 'Does it have any weaknesses?' I think that's why so many outworlders take well to it.

Outworlders?

Us. 'Otherworlders'. 'Kidnappees'. 'People who just showed up here one day for some reason'. ...I wonder if the locals have come up with an official term for us yet?

Right. That's a good term for us.

It's shorter than 'people who just showed up here one day for some reason', at least.

Yeah. I wasn't...really expecting it...[Glances at his pikachu, who leans against his trainer] But I guess we've been together for a while.

That's what I thought to. Once the snow melts, I'll be able to have more use of it.

Back in Castle Oblivion, him and Larxene, well.... weren't exactly the nicest.

[Just a nod, since he met them once? He recalls not really like Larxene, granted he was pretty much a zombie then so yeah]

Yeah.. well, if anything, he's getting pampered by Isa right now. [Looks over where his Flareon is keeping the fire nice and stoked for her winged buddy, along with her two babies and Sheep, and a couple of eggs. Surprise gifts?] And he kind of deserves to put some work out since he went and had an egg on me with Namine's pokemon.

I still don't get the pokemon egg thing.

...Did an egg show up for you to? Like, one you've never seen before?

Me either. All I know is girl pokemon and guy pokemon sometimes make an egg somehow.

Yeah, it doesn't register on my PokeDex either! The Togepi egg I got from Namine did, at least to tell me it was a Togepi. Nothing else came up, so I guess I just gotta wait for it to hatch.

[pause, he's going to try that]

Mine doesn't register either. I wonder if it's from a different region or something like that?

Different region? You think there's more than just what the map we have says?

Well yeah. I mean, the snover had to come from somewhere, right? I think Professor Elm said they weren't native to Johto.

Alright, that sounds cooler. More places to explore than just Johto, awesome!

I want to see them all to. Although, there's still a lot more Johto to see.

Yeah, we gotta see all of Johto first, then we can expand the horizons.

That's the plan. [Roxas might actually smile at that] I bet there's a lot of pokemon to catch to.
