[Waiting for Roxas come Christmas morning is a bag of cookies with a simple note:]

[She smiles nervously back.]

You're welcome. Thank you for my gift too!

Yeah, no problem.

Hope they keep you warm.

[Machina still doesn't totally understand this holiday, but he grasps the concept that gifts are a part of it. So Roxas will find a shiny new hammer with a bag of kitty treats at his bedroom door. This is one of the few he leaves a note with.]

Let's finish the barn together soon.

[Waiting on Roxas's doorstep when he gets home is a yellow rose with a yellow ribbon wrapped around it. There is also a box of heart-shaped chocolates with a card. All it reads is:]

- I've really appreciated you being there for me. Here's to watching our friendship blossom

[ Between being an invalid and, well, Machina, Izana is spending plenty enough time around the house - so noticing that Roxas is not much about isn't difficult.

So, he sets out in the late afternoon to check on him, Chichiri the younger squatting in his hand, held close to his chest. Kotomi seems less despondent if left alone for a little while, but the duckling is very much used to having her person around. So, at least while at home, Izana indulges her.

So it is that Izana knocks on Roxas's door. ]

Hey, Roxas? Are you here?

[ Might as well start like this. If there's no answer, he'll try the amulet. ]

[Roxas can't say he's a fan of being sick. He's usually an active kid, so being bedridden is something he's not great at. He doesn't mind the odd nap, but typically, he'd rather be doing something. Blame it on the Organization for filling most of his time with missions.

But it turns out that running out into a rainstorm to look for your wyvern, and then wandering around some dark and dank caves is not the best course of action if you want to avoid being sick.

He's mostly been sticking to his room to avoid infecting the rest of the house, venturing out occasionally for food. He figures he can sleep it off. It's just a cold after all.

The knock surprises him as he's starting to wake up.]

Yeah?

[ Izana is actually relieved to hear his voice. Considering ... well. Everything. Even if he does sound not quite up to his usual, so the question makes more sense. ]

You doing all right? And if not, want me to bring you anything?

[He's about to say he's okay but there's a coughing fit instead, followed by a few sniffles.]

Just a cold. I'll be fine.

[There's a pause.]

Could you see if we have any soup?

That seems to be going around.

But yeah, don't worry, I can do that. Juice, too, or just soup?

I think it's 'cause I ran out in the rain.

But, no, just soup's fine.

[There's another coughing fit.]

Well. I hope you'll be more careful with that now. I'll bring some soup right up.

[ And it really doesn't take long. Especially since he can warm the soup on his way from the kitchen. Yay magic. ]

Coming in!

It's not like I meant to. I had to go after Tarn.

[He's managed to pull himself into more of a sitting position, but still looks less than great.]

... that's fair. Sometimes, you just have to do things.

[ Izana isn't much help with helping anyone sit up yet, but soup, soup he can do. ]

Let me know if it's too hot or too cold. I'll adjust. And don't worry.

[Soup is enough right now, and Roxas is realizing just how hungry he was.]

It's fine. I haven't eaten in a while.

Oh.... Right. Eat as much as you can, and I'll bring you more if you feel like it when you're done. And I'll keep something coming every few hours after that.

You just focus on rest and recovery.

[ You know what, he might add the fresh cheesy pretzels he got Machina when Kotomi was hatching. They can be great nibble food with little effort to eat them. ]

[There's something really comforting in Izana saying that. Admittedly, Roxas is used to handling stuff like this on his own, and having people stay away. But the idea of being checked on every couple of hours is nice.]

Yeah.

[ It's not because Roxas can't do it. But he's not alone - so he doesn't have to do everything on his own. And, really, Izana will like doing it. He's barely useful recently, so this will be great. ]

[ Izana runs fingers over his own chest, lightly. ]

Rest really does help, usually.

It's worked before, when I've gotten sick in the past.

[He picks up his cat and pulls him over, despite protest.]

He's helped to.

[Though he misses the real thing.]

Hey. You feeling better now, or want some more soup when I get home from work today?

I'm feeling a little better yeah, but I think I should stick with soup for today.

I got out of bed at least.

All right, that makes sense. [ Izana laughs, just a little, at the expression the cat makes. ] I'll leave you to it for now, all right? Unless you want me to bring you a book, or something like that.

[Cat is well fed and well looked after, so he has to put up with this.]

I think I'll be okay, but I'll let you know.

[ Izana leans carefully to give the patient's shoulder a squeeze, then heads out. ]

Get better, Roxas. I'll be back in a bit.

I'll do my best.

[He'll lie back down again and snuggle his cat.]
